You believe God exists; do you want to please Him?

The Most Practical Way
Please God – Part 1

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 13:15-21

Key Verse: Hebrews 13:16

And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

If you stood on the street corner and asked people passing by if they would want to please God, what would be the most popular answer?  I believe the vast majority would say yes.  I don’t think our battle in this world needs to be focused on people who either hate God or don’t believe there is one.  According to polls, the majority of our world believes in a God, even if it’s not the God of the Bible.  If they believe God exists, I think they would want to please Him.

The problem is seldom the desire to, but rather the will and determination to actually find out what pleases Him and doing it!  In our printed key verse for today, the Hebrew writer, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, writes a clear description of how to please God: Do good and share with others.  We’ve been talking about the fact that real love is a very practical action.  Real love actually does something for another person.  Real love for God does something; it obeys His commands (1 John 2:3-6).  Real love does something for other people as well.

When is the last time you shared your possessions with another person?  This was the normal practice for the first Christ followers: “All believers were together and had everything in common.  Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need” (Acts 2:44-45).  (Continued)

Father, I want to please you.  I want to please you enough to act in a way that pleases you.  Show me how and who—today!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
