Series: “What’s Love Got to do With It?”
Today: “The Most Practical Way”
Scripture: 1 John 3:16-18 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
Intro: We’ve all heard people say, “It was love at first sight.”
* The Bible is clear, it is our actions that prove or disprove the authenticity of our love.
1 John 2:4-5 The man who says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him…
1 John 3:18 Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
* A phrase to remember: Practical is impactful .
I. PRACTICAL LOVE GIVES PRAISE TO THE FATHER.
Matthew 5:16 – In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
II. PRACTICAL LOVE PLEASES OUR FATHER.
Hebrews 13:16 – And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
III. PRACTICAL LOVE PROVES YOUR FAITH TO OUR FATHER.
James 2:17 – In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
Conclusion: One practical thing I could do:
