To “do whatever He tells us” is to find the path of great blessings

How to Be Blessed By God
Jesus’ First Miracle

Scripture: John 2:11

This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.

A wedding took place at Cana in Galilee.  Jesus, his mother, and all his disciples were in attendance.  In a society that had few options for fun and relaxation, weddings were festive occasions.  Friends and family gathered to laugh and share stories, simply enjoying these moments of celebration.  Then it happened…an embarrassing event that could have wrecked this wonderful occasion.  The wedding planners realized they had not provided enough wine and they had run out.  For their culture especially, this was a horrible turn of events.  Jesus’ mother, knowing Jesus had some special connections with God, turned toward Jesus to see if He could help.  After a short conversation with Jesus, she simply turned to the servants and said, “Do whatever He tells you.”

What a simple way to approach our walk with God: Do whatever He tells you!  Why would we take this approach?  First, because as Mary knew, Jesus is not just another prophet.  As the Son of God, He is worthy of that kind of trust.  Secondly, our own ways usually are proven inadequate.  Why wouldn’t we want to try Jesus’ way!  Thirdly, where else can we turn?  Mary knew the situation demanded quick attention.  No one else and no other option would do.  We need to remember that the next time we start looking to other people or other things to satisfy our needs!

Yes, to “do whatever He tells us” is to find the path of great blessings.  Jesus always knows and always does the right thing!

“Father, I want to reaffirm my trust in you and your wisdom.  I will look for your ways and go do them today!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
