How to Be Blessed By God
The Rewards of Courage
Scripture: Joshua 6:27
So the Lord was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land.
On the seventh day and on the seventh time of walking around the city of Jericho, Joshua and the Israelites were to “Shout! For the Lord has given you the city! The city and all that is in it are to be devoted to the Lord” (Joshua 6:16-17). We are talking about the rewards of courage today but for just a moment think of the loss due to fear and doubts. Basically, the people would have lost the first battle in their Promised Land which may have resulted in returning to the desert for another 40 years. Certainly, the loss of courage at this point would have resulted in the loss of all the wealth they would get out of the city of Jericho. God had planned to increase their wealth and provide all their material needs through the defeat of Jericho. Because of Joshua’s courage, they did receive all God planned for them to have and enjoy!
When we live our lives with the courage to be obedient to God’s Word and move on His command, great blessings will result. Usually, the rewards follow a significant waiting period. The waiting period is really a “testing” period. God wants to see if we will trust Him and not retreat into panic or anxiety – worry and fear! He wants to see if, during our waiting period, we will trust His plan or rush ahead to accomplish things our way? Are you willing, for example, to pray and wait on God’s plan for your next major purchase – be it a car or home, etc? God knows your needs and wants to provide His resources. Will you wait in peace for it to come?
“Father, as I wait on your plan, I will live today with peace and joyful anticipation for your answer. I know it will be good! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
