Don’t start a day without reminding yourself that there will be battles to fight

How to Be Blessed By God
Prepare Our Minds

Scripture: 1 Peter 1:13

Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

The Apostle Peter gives us three statements, or three steps, that we can believe in and practice, that give us the strength and power we need.  Here are the three statements:

  1. Prepare our minds
  2. Control our flesh
  3. Set our hope

Let’s look at the first step today: Prepare our minds.  The full instruction from Peter is “prepare your minds for action.”  Many good ideas and plans fail due to poor preparation.  We often use the phrase: “we were caught unprepared.”  Sometimes we hear someone say: “had I known, I would have come prepared.”  Being prepared is critical in many areas of our lives.  The apostle wants us to prepare, each day, for action in our spiritual life.  All of us want to live in a way that allows God to bless us.  Joshua was given specific instructions: “Be strong in the Lord.”  As soon as he received that message from God, he began preparing to enter the land God had promised Moses.  We will never be strong in the Lord – blessed of God – if we lack in preparation!

How do we prepare for spiritual action?  First, start your day talking to the God of all power!  Take 10 or 15 minutes to quiet yourself before Him.  Second, read some scripture.  God’s Word feeds our hearts and minds, preparing us for whatever the devil throws at us.  Finally, verbalize the battle.  Don’t start a day without reminding yourself that there will be battles to fight; expect it!

“Father, thanks for showing me the reality of the evil one and all his schemes.  I go to battle today in your power!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
