Intro:  Scripture is full of     wise       passages that tell us       words matter      , but among the wisest and most quoted is Proverbs 15:1-4.

Scripture:  Proverbs 15:1-4 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.  2 The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.

3 The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. 4 The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

* Solomon says…Words Matter…

I. BECAUSE THEY      EXTINGUISH      ANGER OR      ACCELERATE       IT!

Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

QUESTION: What words are you      choosing      ?

QUESTION: What       reaction       represents you best?

* Solomon says…Words Matter…

II.  BECAUSE THEY     DISPLAY      KNOWLEDGE OR       EXPOSE       FOLLY!

Proverbs 15:2 The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes fully.

QUESTION: Are you being     applauded        – spoken highly of for your       knowledge       –or are you being      avoided       because of your careless and       wreckless       words?

* Solomon says…Words Matter.

III. BECAUSE      GOD        HEARS THEM       ALL       !

Proverbs 15:3 The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.

QUESTION: Before you speak or react, do you ever consider that God is      listening       ?

* Solomon says…Words Matter.

IV. BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE POWER TO        HEAL        OR THE POWER TO        CRUSH        !

Proverbs 15:4 The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

QUESTION: Are you a tree of life, or are you a        crusher       ?

Conclusion:  Solomon says…words matter because our words show us to be      wise      or       foolish        !

QUESTION: Which do we want to be?
