With God’s Spirit within us we are no longer victims of our thought life!

Broken Self-Talk
The Mind – Part 2

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 2:9-16

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 2:16

“For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

As we continue from yesterday’s thoughts, let’s focus on verse 1 Corinthians 2:12: “We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.”  The first fact that we must claim is that Christ followers have been given the Spirit of God.  Now, with God’s Spirit within us we are no longer victims of our thought life!  If we have been plagued with a lot of negative self-talk, we now have a helper to deny those negative thoughts any energy.  The Spirit of God will help us be more aware of those negative and abusive descriptions we once were subject to.  The Spirit will help us spot those lies and those unforgiving statements about our past.  God helps us receive His forgiveness and live in that forgiveness.

Notice the last part of verse 1 Corinthians 2:12: “…that we may understand what God has freely given us.”  This is the key to mending our broken self-talk: knowing and recalling what God has freely given us!  He loved us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to redeem us.  God freely forgives the horrible sins of our past when we confess them to Him in Jesus’ name.  God’s Word describes promise after promise that will deny the negative lies that come to our minds.  Don’t allow negative self-talk to rule over your mind today!  (Continued)

Father, I want to stay in your presence all day long, remembering all that you have freely given me.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
