Series: “Broken”
Today: “Broken Self-Talk”
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:12-16 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment:
16 “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
Intro: What kind of self-talk did Peter do for approximately three days?
I. THREE SOURCES OF BROKEN SELF-TALK.
A. First source: the people around us.
1 Timothy 4:12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
B. Second source: The devil himself.
* John 8:44 calls the devil a father of lies.
C. Third source: The carnal nature.
II. HELP FOR HEALING.
* Our scripture for today tells us that we have the mind of Christ.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
James 4:6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
Philippians 3:12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
James 4:6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
Conclusion: When is self-talk really conviction of the Holy Spirit over sinful behavior?
1. Is the inner voice specific ?
2. Is the voice condemning you or convincing you to repent and learn—grow?
