There is a death that comes due to lack of discipline

Broken Self-Discipline
Death by Lack of Discipline – Part 1

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 5:18-23

Key Verse: Proverbs 5:23

He will die for lack of discipline, led astray by his own great folly.

Solomon, the wisest man, besides Jesus, in the world, wrote our printed key verse for today.  There is a death that comes due to lack of discipline.  This death is not simply when the heart of that person stops beating.  This death starts early on in the person’s life when they lack self-discipline.  It is death of the abundant life that blesses a self-disciplined person.

The key word of the phrase self-discipline is self.  When the self is out of control, it wrecks a person’s future by indulging in things that bring all kinds of death.  The drug addict that lays on the sidewalk with newspaper for a blanket is living a death-like experience.  How does that happen to a person?  Many years before, that person did not control “self.”  That person indulged in immediate pleasures that seemed so fun and innocent.  At some point, that drug addict said to himself: “I’ve got to stop; this has turned on me; I don’t like what it is doing to me.”  But they don’t stop far too often and our proverb comes true in their life: “He will die for lack of discipline.”

Are you doing anything right now that you have said to your “self”: “I ought to stop”?  Don’t ignore that voice.  God is warning you of the many “deaths” to those who lack discipline.  Ask God for help so you can enjoy His life in you!

Father, you sent Jesus to destroy death and to make it possible for me to enjoy abundant life!  I will live the self-disciplined life with your help.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
