Broken Self-Worth
Great Love – Part 1
Scripture Reading: 1 John 3:2-10
Key Verse: 1 John 3:1
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
My title for today’s devotional is, “Great Love.” It begs the question: Is there poor love? In my opinion, there is indeed; there is a love that is not good. Parents often love poorly. They don’t mean to, but they don’t love with great love. Great love never spoils a child. Great love always lives in truth. Great love always does what is right, even when it may hurt at the moment. For parents, that is hard to do. We all have loved our children poorly by caving in to their whining or persistent begging, even when it went against our better judgment. Parents that love poorly the majority of the time, know it results in destructive behaviors in the child.
Our Father loves us with great love. We have never received from Him anything less than His great love. God is love, thus He can do no other. However, as His children we question this because we don’t understand that great love, at times, feels to us as no love. “How can a God in heaven love us and let that happen?” Have you asked that question or heard people ask that question? Just like children react when parents stick to their best judgments and say no to a child’s wants, our Father in heaven always gives His children the best answer for every situation, because He always gives great love!
Father, thank you for giving me your great love. I will trust it even when I don’t understand it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
