Broken Self-Worth
If God is for us! – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Romans 8:32-39
Key Verse: Romans 8:31
What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
As we continue studying Paul’s words in Romans 8, it reminds us that there is nothing that can block God’s love from flowing to us! When the doctors need to put a stent in someone’s veins, it’s because something is blocking the flow of blood to the heart. God inspired Paul to write that nothing can ever block God’s love from saturating you and me.
Paul is not making a case that no matter how I live my life, God winks at my sinfulness. A few chapters later Paul wrote, “Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. For if God did not spare the natural branches (the Jews), He will not spare you either (the Gentiles)” – Romans 11:20-21. He was speaking of people hardening their hearts against God. God’s love did not stop flowing, but people do act in ways to block His love from doing its transforming work in their lives!
How you live today—the decisions you make as far as obedience to God—matters! No decision you make, no matter how evil, will stop God from loving you! However, you will be blocking the wonderful work of His love if you make sinful decisions. This is why we should run back to God after a sin because His love is still flowing to us. An example of this would be the prodigal son. When he came running back to his father, he was welcomed with open arms. To his surprise, his father’s arms were wide open! This needs work!
Father, I praise you for the fact that your arms are always wide open to me! I will respond with a reverent lifestyle that you are worthy of! In Jesus’ name, amen.
