Wanting to Get Rich

Scripture Reading: 1 Timothy 6:6-10

Key Verse: 1 Timothy 6:9

People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.

Giving away money to the needs of others seems like a huge sacrifice to some people.  We must understand that God expects His children to be willing to sacrifice.  God sacrificed His Son for us and we who believe will live eternally with God because of that sacrifice.  With this understanding, is giving away some of your money really that big of sacrifice?

Another aspect of giving away our money to help others is that God blesses us when we do it in Jesus’ name and cheerfully.  Read 2 Corinthians 9:6-11 when you have time and allow those verses to remind you that obeying the nudge of God’s Spirit to give away some money really isn’t a sacrifice in terms of what God does in return for a cheerful giver!

The third aspect of this money issue is what money can do to our lives if we are not obedient to God’s Spirit in managing it.  Today’s scripture reminds us that people who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge us into ruin and destruction (1 Timothy 6:9).  Wow!  Do you still want to live a life that is all about getting more stuff?

When we see all our money as God’s and see ourselves as His managers, it helps us not to fall into these traps.  Let’s determine to be generous as God’s Spirit leads us!

Father, I am not my own.  I am yours.  All I have is yours.  I will be listening to your voice in my inner being today and will share with others as you lead me.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
