I Sacrifice Time – Part 2
Scripture Reading: 2 Thessalonians 3:11-15
Key Verse: Hebrews 13:16
And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
Our printed key verse for yesterday and today’s devotional reminds us not to forget to do good. The Greek word used is a long word: epilanthanomai. The New International Version translates it “to forget.” The New American Standard Version prefers “neglect.” Both are accurate when we understand the author’s thinking. Maybe the modern thought for us would be: it’s easy to forget that which we so easily neglect. The word lends itself to the thought of no longer caring for some activity.
Here is the key in obeying God’s Word: we must care deeply about what it tells us. If we don’t, we will neglect its truths and soon be honestly able to say: I forgot! But that is not acceptable to God who has protected His Word so we would read it and obey it. Don’t neglect to do good! I care deeply about my grandchildren, as do most grandparents. When I get ready to buy their Christmas gifts, my wife and I seek out what they want. We don’t want to simply guess and hope they will be happy with what we give them.
Are you guessing what will make God happy? The Bible is your instruction book on how to make God happy. Our verse for today says it clearly: “for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Take time to do good.
Father, I want to please you! I will take time today to do good and share with others both my time and resources. In Jesus’ name, amen.
