If we plan to truly do anyone real good, it will demand sacrifice

I Sacrifice Time – Part 1

Scripture Reading: 2 Thessalonians 3:11-15

Key Verse: Hebrews 13:16

And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Many years ago I attended a pastor’s training conference.  The speaker predicted that a day was coming when people in our churches would give up their money easier than their time.  I could not imagine that scenario because I had grown up in churches that people gave of their time freely.  It was easy to get volunteers.  When we had two week revivals, attending church every night was common.  When we had church potlucks, everyone stayed for the afternoon at the church.  Time was given freely, money was scarce and hard to raise offerings in the church.

I’ve lived long enough to see this conference speaker’s predictions come true.  It’s not that people part with their money easily, but they would rather give an offering than volunteer hours, in many cases.  Our time these days is a precious commodity.  Everyone feels too busy and scattered.  Our lives are so packed with activity that even the activities that are supposed to be fun seem hard to find time (or take time) to put in our schedules.

Yet, the Bible calls for a sacrifice of our time.  Our printed key verse reminds us to do good.  If we plan to truly do anyone real good, it will demand some time on our part.  (Continued)

Father, remind me to slow my mind down enough to notice needs around me.  Help me to do good for someone today! In Jesus’ name, amen.
