God’s people study in order to be thoroughly equipped for every good work

Thoroughly Equipped – Part 2

Scripture Reading:  2 Timothy 3:10-17

Key Verse: 2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Let’s continue from yesterday’s devotional where we left off, the equipping process.  We must caution ourselves not to become career students without jobs!  Have you ever met anyone like that?  They love to go to school but never seem to find a career to apply all that learning.  Sadly, many college degrees go to waste: knowledge is gained but never applied to a gainful employment!

I am afraid that this type of thing happens in the family of God as well.  We see believers that attend every service of the church; they participate in every Bible study the church offers, yet never find a ministry to apply all that learning they are doing!  The church can start to look like a football team that never actually goes out on the field to play a game.  They learn the plays and practice diligently, but never truly play the game!

God’s people study in order to be thoroughly equipped for every good work!  Stop and ask yourself if you are finding ways to apply your knowledge?  Have you volunteered for a ministry where you can regularly exercise your gift and apply your knowledge in building God’s kingdom?  If you never plan to use your knowledge, you can stop gaining knowledge because God isn’t impressed with head knowledge.  He holds the wisdom of the world.  PhDs look like toddlers in His eyes!

Father, I will study and I will serve.  Equip me with everything good for doing your will.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
