iPray
With Thanksgiving – Part 1

Scripture Reading: Philippians 4:4-9

Key Verse: Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

As we continue to study this great passage in Philippians, I want to note how we are to present our requests: “with thanksgiving”!  Most of us pray, presenting our needs and wish lists to the Lord.  But the Apostle Paul is describing an attitude that must be present if we want to pray in a way that is pleasing to the Lord.  This attitude is one of gratitude and faith.

In my opinion, gratitude and faith go together.  I guess one could say gratitude is the proof of our faith.  As you go to prayer, what is your attitude?  Is there dread!  Is there apprehension?  Is there doubt?  Is there anticipation or joy?  It is pretty easy to see which of these attitudes would please God.  He wants us to approach our conversations with Him with anticipation and joy.  Anticipation that we are going to receive His best answer and that is the best answer possible!  We approach our prayer times with joy when we realize these facts: 1. We are invited to the conversation by the God of the universe.  2. The God we serve enjoys giving good things to His children.  3. God doesn’t want us to walk through our days with heavy burdens; He wants to carry them for us!

So, as you talk to God today, what will be your attitude?  Why not consider the facts about Him I’ve mentioned and make all your requests with thanksgiving!

Father, I am so grateful that you have invited me to talk with God about everything I’m concerned about.  I rejoice in our relationship!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
