The harvest is still plentiful and that means even the frustrating people

Excluders vs. Expanders
The Need – Part 1

Scripture Reading:  Luke 10:1-12

Key Verse:  Luke 10:2

He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

A person in my church relayed a conversation she had with a relatively new attendee.  This attendee was complaining about all the new people coming to our services.  Yes, you read that correctly, the new person was complaining about the newer people that were causing her some inconveniences.  I’m glad that my more mature friend pointed out to her that if our church didn’t have the welcoming attitudes and programs to visitors, she probably would not be at our church.

It is so easy to forget about others once we have been served, but Jesus always reminded His followers that the “harvest is plentiful.”  In other words, there are so many people who need the life-giving hope that His church offers!  The harvest is still plentiful and that means all around each of us!  If we open our eyes to hurting people, we will see them with a fresh concern. Remember, it is the frustrating people around you that are often the hurting ones!  Don’t allow your initial reaction to their poor behavior to be your “lasting” reaction.  Shake yourself from those thoughts in order to consider their inner hurts and their eternal needs!  Pray for them!  Pray for an opportunity to serve them!  Pray to the Lord of the harvest that He will use you to invite them into His kingdom of light!  (Continued)

Father, forgive my irritation with those who are caught up in this world’s sinfulness.  May I shine bright with your love and grace.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
