God looks at the heart and knows those that are seeking something other than Him

Exploiters vs. Embracers
Exploiters – Part 2

Scripture Reading:  John 6:60-66

Key Verse: John 6:64

Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him.

As we continue from yesterday’s devotional, let’s look at some modern day exploiters in the religious world.  We want to make sure that we are serving Christ as a true worshipper.  Jesus reminded the woman at the well, in John 4:23, that there is only one kind of worshiper the Father seeks: Those that worship Him in spirit and in truth!  That tells us that our Father sees many worshipers that are false worshipers—exploiters.  God looks at the heart and knows those that are seeking something more for themselves than for God!

I think one example might be the politicians that claim faith.  Our nation is in a season when anyone who wants to get elected needs to claim to believe in God.  In one sense that is a good thing.  Unfortunately, it sets us up to be exploited by a politician that claims faith yet is really looking to his own advancement.

Another example might be a person who attends church to look good to others or enlarge their social circles.  Possibly a salesperson sees church people as great prospects for their business.  God sees these ulterior motives.  He looks past all the exterior smiles and sees a heart that is not truly worshiping Him.  Our Father in heaven longs for us to embrace Him, simply for Him!

Father, I want to worship you in spirit and in truth.  Please help me to eradicate all the negative motives from my heart.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
