This truth is not fickle; it is the same yesterday, today and forever

Protestors vs. Pursuers
The Truth

Scripture Reading:  John 5:19-27

Key Verse: John 5:24

“I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

In today’s short scripture reading, Jesus used one phrase three times: “I tell you the truth.”  That is music to a true pursuer’s ears.  In my definition of a pursuer, they have not become believers, but are “seekers of truth.”  These are the people who come to our churches because they need the truth.  Many of them have had their lives wrecked by the lies of this world.  They have chased after the pleasures of this world and found these pleasures short lived.  Real pursuers are hungry for a way of life that is wholesome and doesn’t leave a wake of damaged relationships.

Jesus knew that many who were listening to Him were, indeed, seeking truth.  His words were from the Father in heaven; a message for all mankind.  His promise: Anyone who believes in Jesus, God’s Son, receives eternal life!  If anyone determines to simply follow Jesus, obeying His teachings, they will discover truth—unwavering, eternal truth.  This truth is not fickle; it is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Many people have determined to read the Bible in order to find contradictions and deny its truth.  Many of these same people were transformed by this consistent truth.  As Jesus said, “The truth will set you free” (John 8:32).  If you are not a believer, continue to pursue truth!

Father, I pray for those that are truly pursuing truth.  Open their eyes; help them see that your Son Jesus is the answer.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
