The Spirit of Jesus
Scripture Reading: Galatians 4:1-7
Key Verse: Galatians 4:6
Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”
The Apostle Paul lays out the work of God in these short verses that I picked for the reading today. When the time had fully come, Paul wrote, God sent His Son to redeem the world, and because of that we receive the full rights of sons. Paul had been writing of our inheritance in previous verses and wanted us to remember that we will receive it because of our faith in Jesus.
Under the inspiration of God Himself, Paul continued to write of God’s work, letting us know that God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts. The apostle had the privilege to have Jesus walk beside him. We have the privilege to have Jesus live with us via the Spirit. Everything that Jesus was to the apostles we can experience by allowing His Spirit free reign in us. “God sent the Spirit of His Son” is a wonderful promise to each of us. We get to have a personal experience with Jesus because of the work of God.
The key to enjoying this experience is listening and obeying the Spirit of His Son. It was true with the disciples as well. Many disciples walked away when Jesus’ teachings felt too difficult (John 6:65). They no longer enjoyed the fellowship with Jesus. So it is with us, if we don’t listen and obey the Spirit of Jesus, we no longer enjoy His daily fellowship!
Father, I want to walk with you and enjoy your presence today. I will listen for the Spirit’s voice and obey His direction for my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
