Evidence of the Spirit – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Galatians 5:22-25
Key Verse: Galatians 5:25
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
No one needs to wonder whether they or others truly have the Spirit of God working in them. The Bible is extremely clear—there will be plenty of evidence when a person is listening and obeying the Holy Spirit of God. The Apostle Paul calls this evidence the “fruit of the Spirit.” A fruit tree, if it is good, will show evidence of what it is and how good it is! Anyone can simply walk by it and see, as well as taste, the goodness levels of a fruit tree. The proof is in the fruit it produces.
When God’s Spirit lives in a person and that person is paying attention to its inner voice, their life will show it. Today’s printed key verse challenges us to “keep in step with the Spirit.” That means follow directions as the Spirit reveals truths! We are to crucify the sinful nature in order that God’s Spirit may freely rule our lives. Then, and only then, we can truly “live by the Spirit.”
When we are living by the Spirit, we will see our love grow to new levels. Joy, peace and patience with people around us will increase noticeably! Before we go on to other fruits, do a quick gut check about your level of love, joy, peace, and patience. Are you living in the Spirit? Would others around you see these fruits? Are your fruits from a good tree and positive influence for others?
Father, I want my family and friends to “taste and see” my fruits and know that I am living in your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
