Trust the Holy Spirit
The Trinity at Work
Scripture Reading: John 16:12-16
Key Verse: John 16:14-15
He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.
In the two printed key verses for today we see the Trinity at work. As you may know, the word Trinity is not found in the Bible. The word refers to a fact clearly revealed in the Bible—God is a triune God: God, the Father; God, the Son; God, the Holy Spirit. Look at these verses for more confirmation of the work of the Trinity. Jesus said “He (meaning the Holy Spirit) will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine.” God is at work around us and in us, using all three personhoods of the Trinity.
Jesus instructs us in these verses that the Spirit who lives in Christ followers does not act independently. “He will speak only what He hears” (John 16:13). In other words, God’s wisdom and truth is brought to us, if we are in God’s family, via the Spirit. If you have confessed and turned from your sins; if you have asked Jesus into your life, you have God’s Spirit living—residing—in you! He is guiding you and revealing truths to you. You can rejoice that God is “equipping you with everything good for doing His will and working in you that which is pleasing to God” (Hebrews 13:20-21). This good work is the job description of the Holy Spirit of God. As we daily open our minds to God in prayer, we can trust His Spirit to work in us!
Father, I want to take time to allow you to work in me before I start my day. Reveal any truths that I need and guide me all day long. In Jesus’ name, amen.
