The Spirit of God goes before us, seeing every person we will meet and every struggle

Future Insight

Scripture Reading:  John 16:12-16

Key Verse: John 16:13

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

In the same scripture verse we studied yesterday, we see that the Spirit will also tell us what is yet to come.  In other words, part of the job description of the Holy Spirit is to reveal and remind followers of Christ’s future insights.  Some refer to this as prophecy or the spirit of prophecy.  There are many testimonies over the ages of times when a Christ follower felt a nudge from the Holy Spirit not to go somewhere or not to do some action.  These Christ followers testify later that this avoided some disaster that could have happened.  The Spirit knows what our tomorrows look like and is willing to guide us through them!

Part of our daily prayers ought to be: “Holy Spirit, please guide me throughout this day.”  This guidance will protect us from making many foolish decisions.  The Spirit of God goes before us, seeing every person we will meet and every struggle we will encounter.  Our Father in heaven is faithful to filter these coming events so none of them will be more than we can handle.  “Future insight” is what God’s Spirit does for us, many times without us realizing how much He is protecting us from.  First Corinthians 10:13 is a great verse to memorize, for it reminds us that we will be able to handle every coming event/temptation in our future!

Father, this is the day that you have made.  Therefore, I can rejoice and be glad in it.  Thanks for going before me today!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
