Scripture Reading:  John 16:12-16

Key Verse: John 16:13

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

After Jesus taught the disciples about the initial convicting work of the Spirit, His teaching turned to the ongoing journey of Christ followers.  For those who respond to the conviction of the Spirit, they repent of their sins and begin their journey with God.  Jesus knew that every believer needed help to discern right and wrong for each and every day.  He encouraged these disciples by telling them that even though He was going back to heaven, the Holy Spirit would guide them into all truth!

Eternal truth is the great need of every sincere believer as they start their walk with God.  God is not primarily interested in making us worldly wise—though He often helps in these areas.  God’s main concern with His children is that each of us learns the truths that last into eternity.  Many Christ followers look like failures in the eyes of this world, but in the eyes of God, they are eternal winners!  Matthew 6:39 reminds us to seek first the kingdom of God.  When God’s truths are at work in us, all the other things fall in place according to God’s plans for us.

The Holy Spirit wants to lead you into truth today.  Will you open your mind and heart to Him?  Seek Him and His truths first in your day.  Your day will go better!

Father, I quiet myself before you for Bible study and prayer.  Open my eyes to the truths you want me to have today!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
