We must hold our tongue and not pass judgment on matters of life and death

Fear God
I Repent – Part 1

Scripture Reading:  Job 42:1-6

Key Verse: Job 42:6

Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes.

God had listened to Job and His “friends” try to explain the suffering that had come upon Job.  Their explanations included a lot of assumptions about God’s part in the ordeal, but they had all misunderstood God and represented Him poorly.

In Job 38 we start to read God’s response to all Job’s assertions.  God starts with a question to Job: “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?”  (Job 38:4).  God continues this line of thought for several chapters.  The conclusion of this matter was simple: No human being can ever know or understand what the God of the universe knows; He is the only true and righteous judge.  We must hold our tongue and not pass judgment on matters of life and death; pain and suffering.  God’s ways are past finding out!

If you believe that God exists, then that concept is too much for your mind to figure out.  If you can figure Him out, He no longer is a God that we need.  If He is so small that His ways can fit into my human logic, then He is no longer big enough or wise enough to help me with problems that seem to have no answers.  But our God can make a way where there is no way because He is far beyond our comprehension.

Father, like Job I have tried to figure you out; even speak for you.  Forgive me when I misrepresent you.  I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
