According to our scripture in Psalms, if I want to be spiritually wise, it starts by fearing God

Sunday Morning Worship
March 4, 2012
Series: “Basic”
Today: “Fear God”

Scripture:  Psalm 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

Matthew 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Revelation 1:9-18 I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 10 On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, 11 which said: “Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.” 12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was someone “like a son of man,” dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. 17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

Intro: According to our scripture in Psalms, if I want to be spiritually wise, it starts by        fearing          God.

A.   Question of the Day: Do you        fear         God?

B.   The Apostle John was banished to a lonely island because of his        testimony          of Jesus.

C.  We must make sure we start our journey with God properly.

* We must experience this fear—this       awestruck feeling        of who God is!

I.           REMEMBER           WHO GOD IS!

* The words that we repeat about God soon form our      opinion        of God.

A.   Stop, in prayer, and refresh your mind of       who        you are talking to!

B.   Jesus taught us to say:       hallowed        is His name.

C.  Allow your mind to think of God’s        attributes or character        ; think of them often!

II.   ALLOW YOUR         FEAR          OF GOD TO TURN TO        TRUST         IN GOD.

A.   After refreshing God’s people with why they should fear God, the Prophet Isaiah wrote:

Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

B.   Our Everlasting God, the Creator of the Earth, does not grow tired or weary (Isaiah:40:28).

* He gives         strength         to the weary and increases the power of the weak (Isaiah:40:29).

Conclusion:  The clearer our         vision          is of our God, the stronger our         faith          will be in our daily walk with Him.

  1. Was so blessed this morning! Thank you for the reminder to be more respectful of God. I often talk to God as a friend and sometimes forget to give him the glory and honor first. Crystal’s song was so beautiful. It brought it all together. What a wonderful day of worship!!
