Fear God
He Holds the Keys
Scripture Reading: Revelation 1:9-17
Key Verse: Revelation 1:18
I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.
In the book of Revelation God gave the Apostle John a firsthand view of the sights of eternity. In the very first chapter, John received a vision of Jesus; it was beyond human words to describe. When John saw Him, he fell at Jesus’ feet as though dead (Revelation 1:17). This was and is the natural response to the revelation of God and the Holy Trinity. Jesus spoke to John and told him that He, Jesus, held the keys of death and Hades.
I don’t want to respond to God and His holy presence with any lack of awe or respect. I want to fall at His feet in response to His awesome and mighty presence. As I live out my life, I want every word spoken and every behavior to reflect my respect for God. He is our powerful Creator. He is infinitely wise. He rules this universe with perfect and eternal purpose. He holds the keys to all eternity. Do you have a proper fear of Him?
After John fell at Jesus’ feet in total fear, Jesus reached down and spoke to that fear. He told John to get up and not be afraid. When we live in total respect of God, we are to relax in Jesus’ hands. This should never lead to a loss of respect, but rather a higher level of trust. If our God deserves this total awestruck reaction, He also deserves our complete trust in everyday life!
Father, fill me with your presence that I might worship you as you deserve. I will live today in reverence to your holiness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
