Conversations of the Incredible Family
Shine at Home
Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:13-16
Key Verse: Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
One of the most crucial conversations we have is about how Jesus lives in our lives. We certainly want to have that conversation with everyone possible. However, it is crucial that we have that conversation at home. This is really an ongoing dialog that Christ followers have in their homes. It is a conversation that happens more informally than formally. It happens around the dinner table. It happens while watching TV. It’s a conversation that happens when daily problems come up in the family. Jesus is an ever present presence that we acknowledge daily so our family gets it.
Probably the most damaging thing that can happen to God’s kingdom is when His people compartmentalize Him. This is when they live life allowing Jesus to only be present in certain sections and times. Kids pick up on this when parents go to church but seldom speak of Jesus during the week. For example, one man confessed to me that his dad was very involved in his church but came home and was physically abusive to his family. This type of lifestyle is not what Jesus died for. Jesus wants to transform our lives in every area. He wants to make our homes a sanctuary of His presence. Jesus tells us to let our light shine. We must start this shining in our homes; for our families.
Father, shine your light into every corner of my life. Fill me so full of your love and light that I spill over to my family. In Jesus’ name, amen.
