Values of the Incredible Family
Love God – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Matthew 22:34-40
Key Verse: Deuteronomy 6:5
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Loving God is a “Doorframe Value,” in fact, it should be the top priority one. Jesus made that clear when an expert in Jewish law tried to give Jesus a trick question. He asked Jesus what the greatest commandment was. Without missing a beat Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 6:4: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”
Don’t forget what a doorframe value is: A value so important that we will look at it daily and do our best to live it out in our lifestyle. That is why God told His people in Deuteronomy to put His commandments on the doorframes of their homes. Maybe we should put something on the door of our home that we use most; a note to remind us what our values are and to live them out in our day!
You probably agree that loving God ought to be at the top of everyone’s list. The question becomes: How do we love Him as He wants to be loved? Certainly it is not by obeying a set of rules; they did that long before Jesus came to earth. Jesus came to teach us that God wasn’t a rule maker, but a heart changer! We seek God to so change our hearts so that we live for Him out of the overflow of our love for Him. Join me in daily praying for God to continually change our hearts so that we can walk in relationship with Him. (Continued)
Father, I give you my heart—the inner passions of my life. Please transform them into the passions that will love what you love! In Jesus’ name, amen.
