Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
As we continue from yesterday’s devotional, let’s turn to the practical matters of “Doorframe Values.” Remember, these values are the ones that you are determined to live out on a daily basis in your life and home. The first step is to decide what values are going to be that valuable to you and your family. Christ followers want the Bible to help them form their doorframe values. Let’s look at some of the biblical values for the home.
Deuteronomy 6:7 refers to the talk in your home. God told His people to let their talk be about His life-giving commandments. God told them to “impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home…when you lie down and when you get up.” Let me ask: What characterizes the talk of your home? Is it God centered? That doesn’t mean that you never talk about anything else. It means that all your talk is done with the understanding that God is present.
Matthew 12:36 gives us a stunning and challenging truth: We will give an account on judgment day for every careless word spoken. Wow! This, then, should become a “Doorframe Value,” all our words will be spoken in a God conscious manner. Our discipline and our directions will be verbalized with kindness!
Father, help me become a person whose words are always spoken with you in mind. I make this a “Doorframe Value.” In Jesus’ name, amen.
