Demand of yourself to not get caught up in the immediate, think long term

A Loser’s Reward
Attitude is Everything – Part 2

Scripture Reading:  Romans 8:17-21

Key Verse: Romans 8:18

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

As we continue our study from yesterday’s devotional, I want to turn to the practical matters of “how.”  How can we keep a good attitude when it seems life is turning against us?

The first step is not to get short sighted.  Learn to look ahead.  It is so easy to let your joy be all about the present, but the Bible points us to trust the work of God for our future.  Even while you sleep, God continues to work, according to the Psalmist David.  Psalm 121:4 – “indeed, He who watches over Israel (God’s people) will neither slumber nor sleep.”  Demand of yourself to not get caught up in the immediate, but to trust God that things will turn around in His timing!

The second step, according to the Apostle Paul, is to do some comparison shopping!  In other words, don’t buy into the first thoughts that come into your mind.  Rather, force yourself to look at what God is preparing for you.  The wonder and glory of our future is mind boggling.  We truly have no reason for a bad attitude.  We have been promised an inheritance that makes our problems “small potatoes.”  God is working all things out for our good and preparing us a great reward for our faithfulness!  So smile, you have reasons to!

Father, I will enjoy today as I walk it with you!  Problems will come but I will trust your help and purposes in them all!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
