Today: “A Loser’s Reward”

Scripture: Matthew 25:34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.

Revelation 21:1-7 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.

7 He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.

Intro:  Jesus asked His followers for their earthly     lives      .

“For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses His life for me and for the Gospel will save it” (Mark 8:35).

* In Matthew 25 Jesus lists some of the expectations:

      • Give food to the hungry.
      • Give water to the thirsty.
      • Give strangers a place to stay.
      • Give clothes to those who need warmth.
      • Give your time to visit those in prison.

A.  Jesus was so emphatic about this; He said when we do these things, it will be judged in heaven as if you did them for        Jesus himself         .

B.  Kingdom losers keep their eyes on the prize:  “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world” (vs. 34).

I.    OUR INHERITANCE IS AN ETERNAL      BEST DAY        .

A.  John said: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

B.  The Bible tries to help us understand        eternity      : a day is like 1,000 years and 1,000 years is like a day.

II.   OUR INHERITANCE IS AN ETERNAL BEST      LIGHT       .

Revelation 22:5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

III.  OUR INHERITANCE IS AN ETERNAL BEST     RESTAURANT    .

Revelation 22:2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

Conclusion:  Our inheritance is an eternal best      home      .

Revelation 21:10-11 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. 11 It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.
