Losers Pay the Price
Run with Purpose
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 9:25-28
Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 9:24
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
The Apostle Paul, in our scripture for today, refers to runners running a race. He is making the point that they may all be running but some are running with a purpose: To win. Applying this to the Christ follower, we are being told to live each day with purpose. That purpose is to win the eternal prize God is preparing for His faithful followers.
Today will be real easy to simply mindlessly walk through. We go through our normal routines and do those additional things that pop up. Our scripture is challenging us to engage life with some purpose. It is telling us to focus on the realities of life. Life will not go on forever; accidents happen and diseases take life from us. Too many live life as if they are immune to death.
As a child of God we must set our eyes on the inheritance that He is preparing for us. We must live our life with one eye on that prize. If we do, it will help us make better decisions, as well as overcome temptations. This world is not our home, we are only passing through. Live today as a pilgrim that is looking for that prized land. This will help us not be materialistic. It will improve our view of the eternal and keep us from being short sighted. So, today, run in such a way as to get the prize!
Father, help me keep my focus today. Remind me that I am simply passing through this life to arrive at my final destination! In Jesus’ name, amen.
