The Loser’s Plan
Over Comers
Scripture Reading: Romans 12:14-20
Key Verse: Revelation 12:11
They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
In the TV show, “The Biggest Loser,” the winner is the one who overcomes the hardships and self-denial demanded to lose the most weight. The Bible speaks often of over comers. “To him who overcomes” is repeated in reference to Christ followers willing to endure the hardships and self-denial of the flesh in order to be faithful to the teachings of Jesus.
Our printed key verse for today is really a prophesy of what is to come when the end of the age comes. The devil has been hurled down (vs. 11) to the pits of hell forever. The faithful are being praised for their willingness to “not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” They have overcome the evil one by the blood of the Lamb. This is the completing of the loser’s plan and the beginning of the rewards.
Will you be counted as one of the over comers? The very term speaks of the battles that must be fought. We can’t use the term “overcome” and not be referring to something uncomfortable or stressing. We don’t use the term over comer when referring to couch potatoes. Over comer is a battle cry for the faithful. We start our days understanding that this life is not friendly to the ways of Christ. Our future, as far as this earthly existence, is not bright. It will be getting worse when it comes to the attacks on our faith, as well as the faithful!
Father, I am determined to be an over comer. I know that I cannot without your power and strength working in me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
