Who is a Loser?
Lose Immorality
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 6:18-20
Key Verse: Colossians 3:5
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
As we continue to look at our key verse for this first week, we see that losers must lose any hint of sexual immorality. In our scripture reading section for today, the Apostle Paul wrote, “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body” (vs. 18).
Sexual immorality breaks the sacred bond that God meant to happen in sexual behavior between husband and wife. The sexual act creates oneness in God’s eyes. It is a serious thing to break that oneness by committing sexually immoral deeds. In fact, Jesus taught that sexual unfaithfulness was the only reason for divorce (Matthew 5:32). Jesus did not indicate that spouses had to get a divorce, but it would be allowed should they choose to when one is sexually unfaithful.
Let’s return to our key verse for the week: Put to death…sexual immorality. In yesterday’s devotional we noted that the Greek term for “put to death” means to deprive of power. Are you adding fuel to any sexually immoral behavior? Are you looking at things that add to sexual temptation rather than depriving it of power? We must determine to starve this monster! Don’t allow any sexual images to freely reign in your mind. Stop them before they have power over you!
Father, please remind me often to quickly deprive sexual temptation any power over me. Grant me your divine power to live pure! In Jesus’ name, amen.
