Embrace His Virgin Birth
The Holy Spirit
Scripture Reading: Acts 1:1-8
Key Verse: Luke 1:35
The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
Let’s take note of the work of the Holy Spirit in God’s plan. The third person of the Trinity was present at the creation of the world. Though He did not reside in people as He does since Jesus’ resurrection, He did work in circumstances.
Once again, we see the person of the Holy Spirit working in God’s plan of salvation when He came upon Mary. Mary, being a virgin, became pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit. Before the Holy Spirit came upon her, she was empty and only had hope of being happily married with children. After the Holy Spirit, great hope arose in her because she believed. Luke 1:45 tells us clearly, “Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished.”
When we believe in Jesus, asking Him to forgive our sins and live in us, we receive the Holy Spirit. We receive all of Him and His personhood. As we grow in our faith, the goal is to give Him all of us! The more we surrender to the Holy Spirit, the more of His power can be expressed through us! The Apostle Peter wrote, “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord” (1 Peter 3:15). The challenge is to allow the Lordship factor to fully operate in us. The Holy Spirit will fulfill every promise and guide us into all truth. Will you listen and follow?
Father, I praise you for giving me the Holy Spirit. I commit to being sensitive to His voice and obeying quickly. In Jesus’ name, amen.
