Jesus wants us to know God—the Creator of this universe—as “Father”

Embrace His Life on Earth
Prayer Life – Part 2

Scripture Reading: John 17:1-5

Key Verse: Matthew 14:23

After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone

As we said yesterday, embracing Jesus includes embracing the Trinity.  As we embrace the Trinity, we start to understand other aspects of Jesus’ life.  His prayer life must become a model for we who call ourselves Christ followers.  Yesterday we looked at the fact that He prayed.  Today, let’s look at the way He prayed.

The first notable thing about Jesus’ prayer life is that He started His prayers with “Father.”  Jesus wants us to know God—the Almighty Creator of this universe—as “Father.”  I realize that you may not have had a father that makes this term conjure up good images, but when we approach God, it is important that we try our best to picture the best father we have ever thought possible.  God is a loving, gracious, forgiving, patient, ever-present Father!  Learn to approach Him with the confidence of a child who trusts a very trustworthy Father.

Secondly, we see that Jesus would often slip away from the crowds and His disciples to pray.  We must slip away as well, finding time that is quiet.  We all need this time to freely and openly let out the cries of our heart to our Father in heaven.  We need to be able to focus on the eternal matters of our never dying souls.  Don’t fail to get alone with your Father today!

Heavenly Father, I need you; oh, how I need you!  Thank you for your desire to meet with me.  I will seek you daily!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
