Embrace His Life on Earth
Obey His Teaching – Part 1
Scripture Reading: John 14:21-27
Key Verse: John 14:24
He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
Much of our nation’s population believes in God but rejects Jesus as His son. The Bible makes it clear that if one embraces God he must embrace Jesus. Jesus’ life on earth was to present God, the Father, in a clear light. Certainly God had revealed some of Himself in the Old Testament, but in the New Testament, there came a fullness of revelation. In the New Testament we see God in full color—HD TV.
In our scripture passage for today, Jesus told His disciples that His teaching was not His own. “They belong to the Father who sent me” (John 14:24). We must embrace the life of Jesus while He was on earth because He came with a purpose. The purpose was to reveal God and His kingdom in easy to understand terms. The life of Jesus was God becoming flesh and dwelling among us!
One of the first principles we must learn if we want to be a fully devoted follower of Jesus is what it means to love Him. It is not to have emotional feelings for Him—though we do at times. To truly love Him, according to Jesus Himself, is to obey His teachings. It is not biblically accurate for anyone to claim a love for God but live like the devil. If our lifestyle is not lining up with the teachings of Jesus, we don’t love Him as He wants to be loved!
Father, I am determined to get my daily life to reflect your teachings. Grant me wisdom and strength. In Jesus’ name, amen.
