Embrace His Death and Resurrection
Our Resurrection – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Romans 8:9-17
Key Verse: Romans 8:1
And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.
The title of today’s devotional is “Our Resurrection.” I’m not referring to our final resurrection after we die. Our scripture is talking of a spiritual resurrection that happens in those who open their lives to God’s Holy Spirit.
The apostle, in the previous verses of Romans 8, is describing our sinful nature. It, of course, is not controlled by God in a sinful man. Thus, those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. It is very important for you to ask yourself who is really in control of your daily behavior. If you are daily allowing sinful behaviors to dominate your life, it is obvious that God’s Spirit is not in control! Some give up trying. Some handle the guilt of daily sinfulness by denying its reality. Some handle it by developing an unbiblical theology that justifies the presence of daily sinfulness. This group says, “We all sin every day, so no big deal.” The problem is they have zero scriptures to turn to for this approach. The Apostle Paul was clear: “Shall we go on sinning…God forbid” (Romans 6:2). The Apostle John confirms this as well: “We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin…” (1 John 5:18).
Remember, the Bible defines sin as the conscious, deliberate rejection of what we know we ought to do (James 4:17). That does not include the inadvertent mistakes that are regrettable, but not sinful. (Continued)
Father, I want to daily live a lifestyle that pleases you and that you are worthy of. Grant me your grace to be holy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
