Embrace His Second Coming
Timeless – Part 2
Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 3:9-18
Key Verse: 2 Peter 3:8
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
As we continue our study from yesterday’s devotional, I want to consider the joys of a timeless world. (I won’t deal with it now, but think also of the horrible plight of the inhabitants of hell.)
Let’s consider our age. In heaven we won’t age as we do on earth. Age is a reference to time since birth; how many years have passed since you were born into this time bound world. Our new bodies in eternity (heaven and hell) will not age because there is no passing of time. Babies that die and old people that pass will all receive a body that is perfectly suited for a timeless existence. In other words, we will all have a perfect body that never changes. Jesus did tell us we will be known as we are known on earth. So we will recognize each other even though our bodies will be totally different.
Another wonderful thought is that we won’t have to grow our love for each other. Again, “grow” refers to time. We will automatically have perfect love for every single inhabitant of heaven. There will be no marriage because that would indicate a special love for one over another. In heaven we will love everyone with the God like love He has for each of us.
I hope you are getting a glimpse of why we celebrate Christmas; Jesus entered our time bound world so we could join Him in a timeless world!
Father, I praise you for preparing a reward for believers that is so wonderful it is beyond explaining! In Jesus’ name, amen.
