Once we leave this earth, time is no more…stress will be history

Embrace His Second Coming
Timeless – Part 1

Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 3:9-18

Key Verse: 2 Peter 3:8

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

The Apostle Peter understood how critical one fact would be for every believer to remember when he wrote: “But do not forget this one thing.”  One fact can make a huge difference in our thinking, motivation, and behavior.  The one fact in this case is about eternity and God’s timetable.  God and all those who have died since the creation of the world exist in a world that is timeless.  Time is simply not a factor.

We are so extremely time oriented that this concept of timelessness is almost impossible to grasp.  Yet, if we are going to understand heaven and hell, we must consider this fact.  Since our days are saturated with the questions of “time,” we consider everything in those terms, but in eternity a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day.  Those are not to be words taken literally, but conceptual words to explain total timelessness.  Once we leave this earth, time is no more.  Whether a person ends up in hell by their own choices or heaven by their faith in Jesus, it will be their existence.  The inhabitants of eternity don’t wake up to another day in hell or heaven.  There is no timeframe that bookends a day.  That is why when God created the earth, He had to speak timeframes into existence: “Let there be light…and let them mark seasons and days and years” (Genesis1:14).  (Continued)

Father, it will be a glorious moment when I step into your world.  Thank you for Jesus and my salvation I’ve gained by faith!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
