Jesus was not trying to scare us but to open our eyes to His plan for this world

Embrace His Second Coming
Later Signs of His Coming

Scripture Reading: Matthew 24:9-22

Key Verse: Matthew 24:14

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

In our suggested reading section for today, Jesus continues painting the time line for His coming.  The persecution of believers will break out in our world, in this later stage.  The hatred for Christians will continue to grow to such a level that it will be legal to arrest believers in Jesus for their faith.  We are presently thought to be “hate mongers” for our stand against homosexuality and other sinful behavior.  In Canada, people are being arrested for speaking against these practices.

The words in verse 12 are surely coming true in our generation: “Sin will be rampant everywhere and the love of many will grow cold.”  These words of Jesus were not spoken to scare us but to open our eyes to the reality of God’s ultimate plan for this world.  We must continually do a gut check and make sure we are not being lured into a spiritual daze.  We want to be part of the crowd that Jesus describes in verse 13: “But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”

Jesus puts the final sign of His second coming in very clear terms: “The Good News will be preached…so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come” (vs. 14).  We are getting very close to this prophesy coming true.  There are only a very few people groups left in the world who have not heard the Good News of Jesus.

Father, use me today to help prepare people around me to be ready for Jesus’ second coming.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
