Blessings to Come Upon You – Part 1

Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 28:2-14

Key Verse: Deuteronomy 28:1

If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.

God has always been clear about the fact that He always blesses people who hear and obey His voice.  In our scripture for today, God first promises to set His people above all the other nations.  In other words, God is looking for those that are obedient so He can raise their standard of living higher than those who don’t.  That standard of living, in God’s economy, doesn’t necessarily refer to money.  God’s obedient children enjoy a deep peace in their souls and a joy of fellowship with God.  They enjoy freedom from shame and guilt.  Their standard of living is worry free because God has promised to take care of them, meeting every need of their life.

Notice the phrase: “all these blessings will come upon you.”  When we walk in obedience, we can’t outrun God’s blessings.  We may feel unworthy of them, but God’s blessings will follow us and overtake us.  It is impossible to out give God.  Whether we give of our resources or of our energy, God’s blessings will be greater in many ways.  When we give sacrificially by saying no to our fleshly desires, God’s blessings will chase us down and “come upon us.”  God is always watching and will never allow an obedient child to go unrewarded.

God loves to raise us higher than the disobedient so that we can shine bright for Him.  The details of that are in His generous hands.  Let’s heed His voice today!

Father, I want to be a follower that obeys fully all that you have revealed to me.  I give you permission to mold me into a person that can be used to build your kingdom.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
