The voice of God won’t be found in confusion and turmoil

Fine Tuning to the Voice
God’s Peace-filled Voice

Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:12-17

Key Verse: Colossians 3:15

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

As we continue our study on how to fine tune our minds to hear God’s voice, we must look at the peace God gives.  Our printed key verse is central to truly hearing God’s voice: “let the peace of Christ rule your heart…”  The voice of God won’t be found in confusion and turmoil.  God’s voice is found in peace-filled minds.  When we allow this criterion to guide us, we get better at “hearing” from God.

When we want to hear from God on a particular issue, one of the first questions we should ask is: “Where is my peace?”  When I think of one solution to a problem over another, I ask this question: “Which solution fills my mind with peace?”  When we follow our inner peace and allow it to rule our decisions, we can trust that we have heard from God.  (All of this, of course, depends on the assumption that we are keeping our daily disciplines or prayer and Bible reading in place.)

After I find peace in the things I’m involved with, I should examine my life to double check that I am indeed hearing God’s voice.  A top priority question is: Are there any scriptural principles being violated?  God’s voice to us would never contradict the Bible, but when my heart is at peace and all fits well in the scriptural context, we can rest in the assurance that God has spoken to us.

Father, today I will look for your peace and follow that direction.  Your peace will have the final say in my life!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
