Fine Tuning to the Voice
Direct Your Thoughts

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.
Our two scriptural references for today speak of directing our thoughts. In Philippians Paul tells us to “think about such things.” In Colossians Paul writes that we should “set our minds on things above.” This is one of the key elements to fine tuning our minds to the voice of God. It is in the mind that we find our “spiritual ears.” Jesus challenged His listeners with spiritual truths and then said, “he who has ears, let him hear” (Matthew 11:15). Obviously, they all had physical ears, but only a few had “spiritual ears.”
To fine tune our spiritual ears we must turn our mind away from thinking entirely about earthly things to “things above.” In other words, we must be intentional in directing our thoughts to the spiritual things. Our printed key verse for today tells us to think on things that are “true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy.” There would be little to think about if these terms directed us to worldly things. This world has few things that could be described with those adjectives, but when we direct our minds toward eternal things, then we find the excellent and praiseworthy things!
Take a few moments to direct your thoughts toward the noble things that would honor God. You may find God speaking to you about a mission to accomplish!
Father, as I think about you and your kingdom principles, help me to hear your voice. I will respond with quick obedience. In Jesus’ name, amen.
