Today: “Fine Tuning to the Voice”
Scripture: John 10:8 All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.
Philippians 3:15-16 All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. 16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.
Intro: Hearing God’s voice can take some “fine tuning” in our lives.
I. DIRECT YOUR THOUGHTS.
A. The Apostle Paul writes about this in two different books.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.
Colossians 3:1-2 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
B. Our spiritual ears are found in our minds .
1. Do some intentional directing of our thought life.
2. Daily take time to think on noble and excellent things.
II. LISTEN TO YOUR DESIRES .
Philippians 2:13 – for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
* Make sure your “wanter” is sanctified !
A. Are you daily having prayer time?
B. Are you regularly reading the Bible ?
C. Are you earnestly trying to live the principles of the kingdom?
D. Do you have any ongoing sins that you are not dealing with?
III. LET PEACE RULE.
A. Paul gives us another principle for fine tuning our spiritual ears to God’s voice: Is there peace ?
B. We who want to fine tune to God’s voice, must be ruled by peace.
IV. LIVE YOUR VALUES .
A. Listen to Paul’s assurance to believers:
Philippians 3:15 All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.
Philippians 3:16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.
B. God’s voice grows clearer and louder to those who dare living the truth that they already know!
Conclusion: God wants to come in loud and clear . For those who have ears to hear – let them hear!
