Fine Tuning to the Voice
A Sanctified “Wanter” – Part 1
Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:12-18
Key Verse: Philippians 2:13
for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose
Another element of fine tuning to His voice is to listen closely to our heart’s desires. I’ve entitled today’s study: “A Sanctified Wanter.” I am referring to God’s work in us that affects the desires or the wants of our life. I believe we can learn to trust that God’s voice is often heard in the desires of our hearts. This is true when we have had our “wanter” sanctified.
The sanctification of our desires means that we have come to surrender our will to God’s will! When we have grown in our spiritual maturity enough to recognize that God’s will—God’s wants—are absolutely best, then we will want what He wants! When we daily seek God in prayer and Bible reading, we can know that these two spiritual disciplines are keeping our hearts open to the work of God in us. Staying in tune with God on a daily basis will filter out fleshly wants that don’t fit God’s values. As we do our daily walk with God, we will start to recognize the desires that are from God and the desires that don’t go along with the teachings of the Bible. For example, if you desire to get rich, that desire doesn’t fit “godly contentment” taught in 1 Timothy 6:6. This principle tells the Christ follower not to trust that fleeting desire; God’s voice is not in it. Reading the Bible begins to shape our deepest desires. (Continued)
Father, I want to recognize your voice in me. I will stay close to you by daily prayer and Bible reading. Please speak to me! In Jesus’ name, amen.
