Too many believers are placing their hope in the same things unbelievers do

What the Voice Speaks
The Voice of Hope

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 1:15-23

Key Verse: Ephesians 1:18

I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints

I believe we need to listen a little more carefully in our modern day to God’s voice.  This is especially true when it comes to our hope.  Society, obviously, puts its hope in things that will never last.  How about God’s children?  Where are we placing our hope these days?  It seems to me that too many believers are placing their hope in the same things that an unbeliever does.  The majority of God’s people seem to be looking to money, power or fame as their source of hope.

The apostle may be sensing some of that in the society he is living in as well.  His prayer is revealing: “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation.”  Paul continues in the next verse: “I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints” (Ephesians 1:17-18).

Would you join me in making this prayer a personal prayer for yourself?  “Father, enlighten my heart that my hope will be in the inheritance you have prepared for me.”  This will keep our eyes off passing things that give no real hope.  This prayer will help us endure this life with a joyful expectation of what is prepared for us in the next life.  Put your hope in the eternal!

Father, thank you for preparing the rewards for my faithfulness.  I look forward to spending eternity enjoying you and what you have prepared.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
