God promises to put thoughts in your mind; we promise to obey

Hearing His Voice
For Our Benefit – Part 2

Scripture Reading: John 12:27-33

Key Verse: John 12:30

Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit, not mine.

Yes, as the title of this devotional proclaims, it is, indeed, for our benefit that God speaks to us.  We serve a God who so loves us that He takes note of every word we speak (Matthew 12:36).  He cares about every detail of our lives.  He wants everything in your life to work out perfectly for your good (Romans 8:28).  He has assigned Himself the job of being the “reminding agent” to whisper into your mind the truths needed to make life turn out as He has purposed!  A couple of chapters later in John’s gospel, Jesus said, “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” (John 14:26).

We should be anxious to hear God’s voice.  We should be ever more anxious to obey the instructions that He gives!  Why?  Because God wants your life to turn out good, even more than you do!  The good that God wants will glorify Him and bless us.  There will certainly be times when we can’t see it or understand God’s decisions, but we can always trust in His perfect wisdom.  When God reminds you of a scripture that applies to your life situation, don’t ignore it—don’t hesitate to obey it—go for it!  God’s Word (The Bible) is God’s very breath.  You can trust it!  (2 Timothy 3:16).  God promises to put these thoughts in your mind.  You promise to obey!

Father, I do trust your words in the scriptures.  I will obey them, as you remind me.  I know they are for my benefit!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
