Hearing His Voice
Sheep Listen – Part 1
Scripture Reading: John 10:1-6
Key Verse: John 10:3
The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
This month is all about discerning the voice of God. For believers, this is our deepest heart cry; we want to hear from our Father in heaven. We want to know Him and follow His instructions for our daily lives.
Jesus makes it very clear that we will hear from our Great Shepherd. There will be many voices that try to mislead us, but the sheep under Jesus’ care will be led by the right voice—the voice of the Shepherd of our souls. We will look at ways we can tune in to this voice, but the truth is God will make sure His children will end up where He wants them to be. Our responsibility is to simply be obedient to the things we do know and trust our Father with the unknown. The Apostle Paul writes: “Only let us live up to what we have already attained” – Philippians 3:16. Paul understood that God is able to communicate with His children through various divine methods.
This month is not about a concern that we won’t hear from God, especially for us who so desire that communication. No, this month is about becoming aware of the biblical directives of improving our sensitivities to His voice and encouragement to be quick to obey that voice. We who stay obedient to Him will continue to be led by Him, the Great Shepherd of the sheep.
Father, I will be attentive today to any whisper that may come from you. I commit to total obedience to your voice! In Jesus’ name, amen.
